A Newcomer

Hello, everyone,

Many of you have joined us recently. Welcome! And thank you for your trust. To get a better idea of our activities and services, please take a look at our overview.

For our long-time members, I’d like to take this opportunity to share the news that Pénélope Blanchetête has joined us as a development and advocacy coordinator on an apprenticeship contract.

As we approach our third anniversary, we aim to further amplify the values and principles that drive us, to participate in the conversation, and to gather a wide range of perspectives. In fact, Baptiste Thevelein, our co-founder, has just been appointed to the working group dedicated to the future of news media and journalism, as part of the États généraux de l’information.

Back to this issue—I’m thrilled to announce the return to our pages of Max Leroy, a columnist at [publication name] coveringMédianes audience trends and currently VP of Product at POLITICO Europe. On the agenda: a goldfish.

And in the announcements: new projects with StreetPress and RFI, and new assignments with Stupid Economics and Afrotopiques.

Enjoy the read!

— Marine Doux and the team at Médianes.

MAXIME LEROY

Product Manager: learn to decide and forgive at speed

While a product manager’s area of expertise varies depending on the medium, there is one essential skill that everyone should possess: the ability to make decisions and forgive quickly—just like a goldfish.

First and foremost, let’s start from the same premise: a media outlet is, above all, a product presented to its audience—a website, a mobile app, a print publication, a YouTube channel, and so on. Improving the experience of this product is the responsibility of the Product Manager…

Maxime Leroy is Vice President of Product at POLITICO Europe. He is a columnist for Médianes.

Choosing the right paper

When we talk about printing, we’re talking about paper. What factors change from one type of paper to another? What impact does this have? Here are some real-world examples.

What We Expect from the General Assembly on Information

The États Généraux de l’Information is kicking off, and our few years of experience with independent, emerging, and/or socially conscious media have given us some ideas.

⟶ A collection of posters for Vert

Vert, a leading media outlet on environmental issues that our team has been supporting since 2022, launched an online store earlier this month to make its “Désordres de grandeur” poster series available for free: a technical solution implemented by Médianes.

⟶ The Start of a Collaboration with Stupid Economics

We handed the microphone to its co-founder… We’re thrilled to begin a marketing project alongside the Stup Média team, an organization that brings together Stupid Economics—a YouTube channel dedicated to making economics accessible to the general public—Léa Bello, Spline LND, and Vincent Manilève.

⟶ An online showcase for Afrotopiques coming soon

For the past few days, we’ve been working on creating a website for Afrotopiques, Marie-Yemta Moussanang’s podcast that addresses major contemporary issues from the perspective of the Global South in general, and the African world in particular. This project builds on our ongoing strategic consulting work with her.

⟶ A Time for Change at RFI

The teams at France Médias Monde have reaffirmed their confidence in us. What is at the heart of this new collaboration? Supporting RFI’s new management team on transformation issues (strategy, organization, etc.). This assignment builds on our ongoing monitoring efforts.

⟶ Our vision of independence.

Marine Doux reflects on the launch of [titleMédianes] and shares our thoughts on media independence in the latest issue of *Plumes With Attitude*.
