Let's head to Brussels!

Events, projects, publications: Take a look behind the scenes in October.

OCTOBER 2025 ISSUE

Heading to Brussels

Hello, everyone,

In a few days: off to Brussels! On November 6, we’re co-organizing the Sphera Media Lab with Arty Farty (European Lab)—a day dedicated to independent European media outlets to exchange ideas, debate, and take action. It’s a great opportunity to meet members of our Sphera network, but above all, leaders and creators from all over Europe.

On the studio front, we’re looking back at our project with Le Monde—carried out in collaboration with their sales teams—to clarify and structure their B2B offering, and we’re revealing the new projects we’re working on.

Finally, in this issue of Coulisses, check out our latest article published in the Columbia Journalism Review, as well as an analysis of the rise of AI in email inboxes.

Enjoy the read,

MARINE DOUX, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF MÉDIANES

Behind the Scenes

PROJECT OF THE MONTH

From Independence to Sustainability: See You at the Sphera Media Lab!

For the past year, he has been Médianescoordinating Sphera, a network of independent media outlets (444, El Salto, Popaganda, StreetPress, Krytyka Polityczna, VD News, etc.) that strengthens editorial collaboration in Europe.

On Thursday, November 6, in Brussels, the Sphera Media Lab will bring together journalists, executives, and creatives from across the continent for a day of workshops, meetings, screenings, and discussions: How can we regain autonomy from the platforms and uphold editorial freedom?

Organized in partnership with Arty Farty (European Lab), this event is free with registration. Will we see you there?

Meta's ban on political ads is shaking up independent media

BY MARINE DOUX — MÉDIANES & COLUMBIA JOURNALISM REVIEW

In early October, Meta suspended all ads related to “political, electoral, or social issues,” affecting subscription and donation campaigns for many media outlets in Europe. This decision has shaken newsrooms and underscored the urgent need to reduce dependence on platforms.

Facing AI, newsletters under threat but not doomed

BY OWEN HUCHON — MÉDIANES

What if your email inboxes became automated and summarized your messages? A dream come true for some, a nightmare for the press, which had found in newsletters a way to escape algorithms. So, should we abandon this format?

Le Monde: A Look Back at Our Mission

How can you clarify and structure a B2B offering in a leading publication?

Working alongside Le Monde’s sales team, we supported the redesign of their B2B offering by helping to clarify the offering, develop messaging and sales pitches with the teams, and structure an optimized sales process.

The goal? To strengthen the value proposition of *Le Monde*’s offering for professionals, equip the sales teams, and facilitate understanding and promotion of the offering—all to make the team more effective and self-reliant in its implementation.

Get a behind-the-scenes look at our project with Le Monde on our studio's website.
