General Principles
Our mission is guided by the fight for information, which rests on three pillars: pluralism, freedom to report, and independence. These are signs of a democracy's vitality, all the more so at a time when democracy itself is under threat and media concentration is stronger than ever.
We are committed to championing the issues and values we care about: feminism, ecology, anti-racism, inclusivity, and geographic representation. We seek to highlight and collaborate with this new generation that is transforming media, those who want to embed these narratives in their online or print outlets, in both substance and form.
The Médianes editorial team does not select the ads and has no knowledge of the ads that will be published. The work of promoting, monitoring and managing the ads is handled by third parties outside the newsroom, in order to maintain its independence.
A job posting
The My Job Listings service is open to media outlets or media-related services that wish to post job offers, whether for salaried positions, paid internships, or freelance assignments. We are committed to promoting job offers that respect labour law and people's well-being. Consequently, we will not accept listings for assignments paid in copyright fees or by invoice, unpaid internships, or offers designed to replace salaried positions with interns. Similarly, we will not post offers that discriminate based on origin, sex, gender, religion, age, or disability.
A media launch
The My Announcements feature is designed for media founders who need a space to communicate about launching their project. We aim to promote an announcement distribution space that respects the values and principles we champion: independence, ecology, feminism, social justice, Europe. We ensure that we highlight media launches that have an impact we consider positive for society, whether in their editorial line, management, or operations.
- Editorial line: An innovative, inclusive and diversified editorial approach that offers varied perspectives and combats stereotypes and cultural biases. Content should aim to inform, educate, or inspire the public while respecting principles of transparency and fact-checking.
- Management models: Internal governance that prioritizes transparency, mutual support, participation, and pay equity.
- Internal organization: An organizational structure that values diversity (gender, background, skills) and inclusion at all hierarchical levels. Special attention will be paid to media organizations that promote continuous training, skills development, and the well-being of their employees.
We also encourage collaborative, cooperative, or nonprofit media projects that seek to reinvent traditional models to promote more democratic and participatory information.
An event
You can post about an event in the My Announcements section. The principles outlined above also apply here. The idea is to prioritize events that are accessible, inclusive, and environmentally responsible.
We prioritize events that:
- Offer reduced or pay-what-you-wish rates for people with low incomes, and ensure access for people with disabilities.
- Promote diversity among participants in terms of gender, origin, expertise, and perspectives. Events must ensure representation of a plurality of voices and experiences, particularly those often marginalized.
- Use ecologically responsible practices (waste reduction, use of recyclable materials, promotion of low-emission transport). We encourage events that seek to minimize their ecological footprint and engage in raising awareness among participants about sustainable practices in their editorial positioning or organizational methods.
A new project
Launching a new vertical, application, or subscription offering? The My Listings feature might interest you. We prioritize projects that are:
- Innovative: the project adds value to the user experience, whether through format, content, values conveyed, or technology used. We seek to promote projects that put audiences at the center and experiment with modes of interaction and participation with them.
- Are part of a responsible approach: the project respects the accessibility and inclusivity criteria set out above, journalistic ethics standards, prioritizes eco-responsible practices, and is integrated into a viable economic approach.
A campaign launch
If you launch a fundraising, membership, subscription, or product campaign, you have the option to increase its visibility through the My Listings section. We're looking to support campaigns that:
- Support and champion just causes: selected campaigns promote initiatives that make a social impact, as outlined above.
- They are transparent and accountable: campaigns clearly and honestly explain how collected funds will be used, the objectives pursued, and the expected results. Transparency and accountability are essential criteria for maintaining public trust.
Expertise
Listings can be a preferred channel if you need to highlight expertise: you are a media outlet and have developed an agency model, or you are a freelancer working with media outlets. You can recommend your own offering or that of a third party, provided it complies with the principles stated here. The principles stated above apply.
What ortho-typographic rules?
Inclusive writing
We use inclusive writing in our content. This means, in particular, that we use the midpoint, proximity agreement, gender-neutral terms and inclusive words, double inflection ("all women and men"), the feminine form of job titles (ranks, professions and titles), and we prioritize alphabetical order when mentioning both masculine and feminine forms.
Usage codes
When writing your listing, we recommend:
- Prefer using the term
- Replace uncommon English words and anglicisms with their French equivalents.
- Use the term "digital" instead of "numérique".
- Refer to "climate change" rather than "climate crisis" or "climate emergency" to avoid the impression of a return to normal.
- Specify in job offers the type of contract, and use the correct terms, for example: "Such and such media is hiring on a permanent basis, fixed-term contract, or apprenticeship. Such and such media is looking for freelancers or contributors. Such and such media is offering an internship."
By submitting a listing, you agree to comply with all of these criteria and to promote ethical and inclusive professional practices. We reserve the right to refuse any listing that does not comply with these principles.
