JUNE 2025 ISSUE

In response to the emergency

Hello everyone,

Here at [Name]Médianes, the past few weeks have been somewhat shaped by current events. As the Hungarian government attempts to pass a law aimed at imposing severe penalties on the country’s independent media, it is unthinkable to stand idly by. We therefore wanted to speak out and encourage citizens and institutions to take action in support of our Hungarian partner, the news outlet 444.hu, and to preserve press freedom throughout Europe. To join us, read our op-ed and sign the petition.

In this issue, we’d like to take this opportunity to give you a behind-the-scenes look at this initiative and explain why we believe it’s important to speak out in today’s media landscape.

Also on the agenda for this June: an opportunity for European media outlets to join our network, new projects at the studio, job openings, and an invitation to our summer party!

Enjoy the read,

MATHILDE CARLIER, PROJECT MANAGER AT MÉDIANES

OUR LATEST PUBLICATIONS

In Hungary, free press hanging in the balance

BY ALEXANDRA TYAN — MÉDIANES / SPHERA

Gábor Kardos, CEO of Magyar Jeti Zrt, the independent publisher of the Hungarian news outlet 444.hu, describes how he and the editorial staff reacted to the new Hungarian bill, which would impose heavy penalties on media outlets receiving foreign funding and thus poses a direct threat to them.

Why archiving is essential to media independence

BY OWEN HUCHON — MÉDIANES

The web has amplified journalism's reach tenfold but also weakened its memory. Exposed to technical hazards, political and financial pressures, years of work can vanish without a trace. In this context, archiving becomes an act of resistance.

A New Web Project with Vert

Vert continues to expand by launching “Vert le futur,” a series of conferences aimed at understanding and addressing environmental challenges. As part of this launch, we supported the team with strategy, design, and web development. From a technical standpoint, we designed the functional and graphic mockups for the microsite dedicated to presenting the “Vert le futur” initiative, and then handled its development and integration.
