We're a team
Hello, everyone,
We hope you are doing well and that you are managing to find a way through the gloom and the news of the start of the year.
Meanwhile, part of our team will be heading to Madrid on March 6 and 7 to soak up some sunshine and get support from members of our Sphera network as we prepare for the next phase of the project. Will you be in the area? Let us know!
To stay optimistic even in the face of adversity, what better way than to come together? The tone in the media is growing darker, social media is becoming less and less welcoming, and the Overton Window—wide open—has us fearing for the future of public debate. In this context, we are more convinced than ever of the importance of joining forces to support a free and independent press.
And we’re not the only ones: Vert, StreetPress, Coop-médias, Arrêt sur images, Politis… In this issue, you’ll find several examples of media outlets and initiatives that are also incorporating the principles of mutual aid into their strategies. It’s sure to inspire you and make you want to pull together.
Speaking of mutual support, this spring we will welcome ten new media projects as part of the Programme Médianes. If you’d like to join a community of founders and a network of media experts to give your project a boost, you’ve come to the right place!
Also on the agenda for this issue: the focus of the next issue of *Pays* magazine, a podcast episode discussing transition at [name]Médianes, and a job opening to join our team.
Enjoy the read,
— Marine Doux, co-founder of Médianes

In 2025, independent media will play as a team
In the face of threats to the diversity of information and democratic freedoms posed by the rise of the far right and media consolidation, collaboration is essential for independent media. It is a way to strengthen their resilience and impact and to ensure a free, engaged, and sustainable press.

The Internet is slipping away from us, how can we take it back?
Unpredictable algorithms, plummeting traffic, and dependence on platforms: the media find themselves trapped by an Internet they no longer control. How can they maintain their connection with their audience? We offer an overview of current initiatives, ranging from decentralized platforms to physical distribution and a return to print.
