Médianes is expanding and opening up to Europe
Hello, everyone,
In our last issue, we told you about some changes, and here’s the latest news! Since October 1, Médianes has been coordinating Sphera, a European network of independent and socially conscious media outlets.
We are taking over from Babel International and welcoming their employees to our team, including Francesca Festa, Babel’s former CEO, who is joining Médianes as Director of Development.
We had already worked together and recognized our many commonalities. This partnership is driven by shared values, complementary networks, and similar challenges. The goal? To strengthen the impact of independent media in Europe.
As the far right gains ground in Europe, we face growing challenges to press freedom. Sphera amplifies the impact of independent journalism centered on fundamental values such as social justice, environmentalism, feminism, and anti-racism—pillars of Europe’s future that Médianes champions and seeks to highlight.
This new phase opens up unprecedented opportunities, not only for those we support, but also for us. It prompts us to reflect on our organization and our growth. We realize that we will likely make mistakes along the way. We therefore count on your feedback to help us grow and stay true to our goals.
Back to this issue: Today, we’re also featuring the new cohort of the Programme Médianes, an interview with Ariane Lavrilleux on equality in newsrooms, as well as updates on our projects, including the sixth issue of Pays and collaborations with La Déferlante.
Enjoy the read,
— Juliette Cahen, Editorial Manager at Médianes

The teams at AEF Info, a digital trade media group specializing in socio-economic issues, have entrusted us with supporting them in their marketing strategy. We are very excited to begin this project alongside them, which will keep us busy over the coming months.
⟶ The first step in a website redesign for La Déferlante
We are delighted to present one of the first projects we’ve undertaken alongside La Déferlante as part of a redesign project: the graphic and technical implementation of the pre-sale campaign for *Iddù*, an ecofeminist and queer tale by Camille Bouvot-Duval and Léa Djeziri.
⟶ With OFALP for freedom of the press
For the past few weeks, we’ve been supporting OFALP (the French Observatory on Attacks on Press Freedom) with their fundraising campaign. The goal? €30,000 to fund an annual report on attacks on freedom of the press. The campaign runs online through November 4.
⟶ Volume 6 of *Pays* will soon be available in bookstores
After Saint-Malo, the Vercors, Belleville, Mayotte, and the Ardennes, *Pays*—the magazine we co-founded—is dedicating its sixth issue to the Contentin. It’s scheduled to hit bookstores on November 7, and you can pre-order the magazine now. And if you’re in Cherbourg that day, come meet the team!
⟶ Once again with StreetPress, Harmonie Santé, and the INA
These media outlets are once again placing their trust in us: a fundraising campaign with StreetPress, the development of editorial content for the INA, work on Harmonie Santé’s digital strategy… We’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at these projects in an upcoming newsletter—stay tuned!
