A New School Year in Europe
Hello, everyone,
A few days ago, we left Biarritz, where the entire team had gathered for a seminar. There were (of course) wild games of Werewolf and anecdote contests, but above all, we took the time to think together about where we’d like to take Médianes next.
The project has been around for four summers now, and we’ve been working to transform the mainstream media while helping new, independent, and socially conscious media outlets grow. The future? We envision it as even more collaborative and European. The past few years—and months—have shown us how important it is for media leaders to support one another and join forces. Strengthening the impact of independent and socially conscious journalism on both the French and European levels will now be our primary focus.
A new chapter is about to begin, both for Médianes and for the team, and we can’t wait to tell you more!
Also in the works: Season 3 of Chemins, Médianes’s podcast that gives a voice to media leaders. And what’s on the agenda this time? The finale. Our journalist Marine Slavitch is already hard at work—if you have any ideas to pitch us, don’t hesitate!
As we mentioned in the last issue, we’ve recently started testing “Ads,” a section in our Stratégie newsletter designed to showcase your projects, launches, or job openings to our community. Would you like to submit your project?
Also in this issue: Agathe Kupfer’s analysis of media clubs, our manifesto on graphic design by Christelle Perrine, and a press review by Marine Slavitch.
📆 Are you in Nantes? Marine Doux will be there starting tomorrow to present the New Media Award at the Local News Festival. Write to her!
Enjoy the read,
— Juliette Cahen, Editorial Manager at Médianes

Clubs for more inclusive and participatory journalism
Exclusive access and content, masterclasses, and even cocktail parties with the editorial staff… Media outlets are increasingly launching “clubs.” It’s a way to strengthen their community and promote their values of transparency and inclusivity. The digital magazine Chut! and the British local investigative outlet The Bristol Cable share their experiences.
Your friends may have already been pestering you to join a movie or book club. The proliferation of these “clubs”—which turn a traditionally individual activity into a group experience—reflects our need to build a sense of community. Riding this trend…

Pixel Paper — Inoxtag, the Media, and Internet Culture
The relationship between content creators and traditional media has all the hallmarks of a Cold War. But Inoxtag’s ascent of Everest broke the ice, capturing the attention of a press that is often reluctant to acknowledge Internet culture. An analysis of media coverage.
