Heading Toward 2025
Hello, everyone,
And above all, Happy New Year! We hope this new year gets off to a great start for you. As for us, the turn of the year to 2025 gives us a chance to reflect on the past few months, but also to look ahead.
It must be said that last year was full of projects and changes: expanding our reach into Europe through our coordination of the Sphera network, growing our team, launching our training and support programs, and publishing a book…
The coming months should provide us with an opportunity to continue many of the discussions we began at the end of the year—covering our vision, our missions, as well as organizational and management issues—so that we can start the first half of the year off on the right foot, with a clear mind.
Back to this January! We’re thrilled to welcome a new team member:Médianes Charlène Hourdin, a developer and digital project manager based in Brittany, will be working with us on internal digital projects as well as with our clients.
In addition, our first event of the year is fast approaching: on January 23, we'll be in Brussels for another edition of the Sphera Media Lab, an event organized by Sphera members — of which Médianes is the coordinator — in collaboration with European Lab. On the agenda: a day of discussions, workshops, and screenings to reaffirm the importance of independent media and its impact as a pillar of democracy. We'd love to see you there!
In the meantime, staying true to our usual format, this “Behind the Scenes” newsletter offers a glimpse into our projects and those of our clients. Also featured in this issue: a training program to help you get started in media entrepreneurship, a podcast to fuel your inspiration, and an article on COP coverage.
Enjoy the read,
— Marine Doux, co-founder of Médianes
THE MÉDIANES TEAM
Médianes is launching its first training program
This year, we are launching the first edition of “Creating a Media Outlet,” a training program designed for media project leaders who are still in the ideation phase or who want to structure an existing project.
The goal? To help you understand each step in creating a media outlet so you can develop a viable project that is structurally, editorially, and financially sound. The training program will take place over six days, starting in mid-February 2025, and is eligible for funding through your OPCO or France Travail. Registration is open until January 22!

Thinking About the Future of Your Media Outlet
How can a media outlet reinvent itself without losing its essence? Season 3 of our podcast *Chemins*, dedicated to the end of media outlets, continues. In this new episode, Clémentine Labrosse, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the feminist magazine CENSORED, discusses the end of its print edition and the project’s rebirth in new forms after five years.

COP: Covering environmental news without compromising one’s values—the challenge facing independent environmental media
Air travel, participation in controversial events, attempts at greenwashing… For independent media outlets focused on environmental issues, balancing ethical principles with editorial imperatives is a challenge. This dilemma has come into sharp focus during recent COPs, giving rise to a variety of approaches.
