Today is your day

Hello, everyone,

50 years of *Libé*, 15 years of *Mediapart*, 1 year of *La Disparition*… The anniversaries just keep coming, and it’s hard to know where to turn. The good news is that it’s always a pleasure to raise a glass to committed media outlets.

That’s why today we’re sharing three great ideas for celebrating your media outlet’s anniversary: by throwing a big party, offering discounted subscriptions, or doing what media outlets do best—telling stories.

And in our roundup: a fascinating interview between journalists Salomé Saqué and Loup Espargilière, a charter on the use of artificial intelligence, a purring Lorem Ipsum, and job listings, of course.

Enjoy the read,

— Marine Slavitch and Marine Doux

Ideas for Your Media

Another year has gone by! That’s right—your media outlet’s anniversary is here. Now you just need to figure out how to celebrate it. Whether it’s an event, a marketing campaign, or a sale offering discounted subscriptions, today we’re sharing three ideas for a legendary anniversary.

Rewatch the movie

For its 50th anniversary, the daily Libération published 50 wild stories that happened during an interview, at an event, or by the coffee machine. A special highlight was the day when the Sports section teamed up with Culture to have writer Marguerite Duras interview former French national team number 10 Michel Platini. A great way to celebrate the newspaper's evolution and showcase its editorial strength.

Going to the Countryside

To mark its 15th anniversary, the investigative news site Mediapart is organizing a tour of 15 French cities, a poster campaign and an annual subscription offer at €15. With the tagline "Without Mediapart, you would have known nothing", this campaign aims to show "how [their] investigations have uncovered truths that would otherwise have remained buried, hidden or suppressed".

Rely on Your Community

To celebrate its first anniversary, the epistolary media outlet La Disparition—in collaboration with Médianes— hosted a special event where four prominent figures read letters about upcoming disappearances. And since it’s also possible to celebrate online, La Disparition is offering discounted subscriptions, which have been widely shared by its community.

Spotlight on a Project

A new article format and a paywall for La Déferlante!

We redesigned and standardized the layout of the website’s articles—both those from the print magazine and the newsletters—and added a paywall and registration wall using Poool. The goals? To offer a better reading experience, improved search engine optimization, and better content protection for subscribers to this feminist media outlet.

COMMITMENT ≠ ACTIVISM

Salomé Saqué, a business journalist for Blast, discusses her approach to reporting on climate change. “Choosing a topic, a headline, or giving a voice to a particular person—that’s already a form of subjectivity, of commitment […] what guides me in choosing my topics is the concept of public interest,” she replies to those who accuse her of activism.

MONETIZING SINCERITY

Web culture moment. Have you heard of “cringe”? This word, which could be translated as “awkward,” describes content that makes viewers feel uncomfortable because of the sincerity of the people in it. On TikTok, the more “cringe” a video is, the more its view count skyrockets, and “being too sincere has become the most effective way to build an audience and monetize it,” summarizes journalist Taylor Lorenz.

When launching a project, creating a visual identity is a priority that usually involves selecting fonts. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula for choosing them, but a few tips can help you get started. You’ll find a guide in the latest column by our art director, Christelle Perrin.
