With less than 80 days to go before the presidential election, editorial coverage is flourishing, and as it does every five years, the election campaign gives the media a chance to engage with their readers in new ways. By involving them in the editorial process, devise new products, or even form alliances between newsrooms—get inspired for the next event you’ll be covering!
Forming Alliances Among Newsrooms
Often, when it comes to the media, there’s strength in numbers. Radio Parleur, Basta!, and Politis are teaming up to cover the presidential election and are embarking on a “tour of France’s social struggles” with the Hexagone project. Each stop along the route is the focus of content and concludes with a podcast recorded on site. Meanwhile, Ouest-France and 20 Minutes are teaming up with Meta and the organization A Voté to encourage voter turnout. The benefit? Cost-sharing or reaching new audiences. Handy.
Start a newsletter
Taking advantage of the event to launch a newsletter—that’s exactly what Nice-Matin is doing with *Moi, Président*, a political newsletter that complements the group’s presidential and participatory initiatives. The Conversation got in on the action back in September with “2022: Portrait(s) of France(s).” Each issue is themed and allows the publication to highlight its articles. No time to create a new product? A special presidential series always makes an impact, much like the Bondy Blog, or updating an existing format, such as Louie Media’s Book Club.
Give someone a chance to speak
With #MoiCandidat(e), Ouest-France gives its readers a platform to speak out and invites them to share their ideas for France. You don’t need to be a subscriber to participate, but the initiative doesn’t overlook those who don’t play along… In the same vein, Usbek & Rica regularly asks its audience questions through its “S.O.S.” section. Recently, the publication called on its readers to envision the government of the future. Let your creativity run wild! We’re counting on you.
